Can two people play Death Squared on one screen?

Yes. Two players can play Death Squared co-op on one iPad: same screen or two controllers.

A co-op puzzle game about steering two robots to their goals without getting each other killed. On iPad each player takes one virtual stick on their side of the screen.

How you play together

  • Two controllers
  • Shared touchscreen
  • Controller and touch

Shared touch. Each player takes one virtual stick on their side of the screen.

How to start co-op in Death Squared

  1. Co-op starts automatically, there is nothing to switch on.
  2. Each player uses a controller or the touch stick in their own corner of the screen. Mixing works too: one on touch, one on a controller.

Worth knowing

The four player party levels from console are missing on iOS. Last updated in 2018, but it ran fine on our iPad with two controllers.

Our review

Death Squared is one of our favorite games so far. I love the voiceover. I am always open to raw, authentic characters, and the narrator who runs the tests talks like a real human. The script is actually fun to go through, and his little comments in between match the game perfectly. They add a lot of character.

It is really fun to play, too. It is calm, so it suits anyone looking for a peaceful game to unwind with, and it is challenging at the same time. It is very collaborative: you think together, experiment together, and you have to work together, otherwise nothing works.

The graphics are nice. Not quite our cup of tea, but I have to give this game a lot of credit, because it is one of the best puzzle games I have ever played. You can also enjoy it with less experienced or younger players. I played it with my daughter, and it was a great experience overall.

We played with two controllers, and hooking them up was a no-brainer. The touchscreen controls are still intuitive, but controllers were the best fit for us. It is definitely one of the best co-op games on this list.

Death Squared level 09 on an iPad: the blue and the red robot cube have to reach their matching goal pads, with touch sticks for each player in the corners
Level 08: one robot stands on top of the other to get past a gap
Level 07: the red and the blue robot on opposite ends of the puzzle, red hologram blocks between them
