Co-op Mobile Games

How we check

One question per game: can two or more people play it on the same team on a phone or tablet, and how exactly do they connect.

Three ways to play together

  • One screen. Both players on a single device: same screen, split screen, passing it, or a controller each.
  • A device each, same room. Two phones or tablets linked by wifi, hotspot, Bluetooth or a code.
  • Online. A device each, over the internet.

Stores file all three under multiplayer. We keep them apart for every game.

Three evidence marks

  • Tested by us, 33 games. We played it and say on what.
  • Publisher stated, 78 games. The developer or the store listing says so. We link the page.
  • Community reported, 0 games. Press, forums or databases say so. Nobody official has confirmed it.

A mark only moves up when we have played the game.

Who gets listed

A game is listed when two or more people can play it on the same team, it is in the App Store or on Google Play today, and we can point to a source for how you play together: our own test, the developer or store listing, or a report we link. It also needs at least 5 ratings in the US App Store, unless we have played it ourselves. A brand new game with no ratings yet is not a bad game, we just have nothing to go on. It is added once it passes 5. Nobody pays to be listed and nobody can.

How we rank

The default order is our ranking. It has two parts.

The crowd. Every game starts from its average rating in the US App Store. The number of ratings does not change it, so a small game with a loyal audience can sit next to a hit.

Our taste. When we have played a game we give it a co-op fun score from 1 to 10, for how much fun it is to play together. A great game we would rather play alone scores lower here. That score can move it.

  • Above 7: the game moves up. An 8 adds a quarter of a star to its rating. Above 8 every point counts double, so a 9 adds three quarters of a star and a 10 a star and a quarter. These are the games we want you to find, even when few people have rated them yet.
  • 7: nothing moves. We leave the verdict to the crowd.
  • Below 7: the game moves down, by a quarter of a star for every point below 7.
  • Not played by us: nothing moves. Most games on the list are in this group, and they rank on their store rating alone.

A game with fewer than 20 ratings that we have not played comes after all the others, because a handful of votes says little. The same holds in the App Store rating order. If we have played it, it starts from a neutral 4.5 stars instead of its own few ratings, and our fun score moves it from there.

Our taste is ours. If you would rather see what everyone else thinks, choose App Store rating in the sort menu above each list. That order has nothing of ours in it. Complexity is our estimate from the genre and is marked as one. Our fun score and review are on each game's own page.
