Our review

Crimsonland is a top-down horde survival shooter, and a bloody one indeed. The neatest feature for me is all the blood spreading and splattering across the battlefield.

For co-op, it definitely works well. Joining is super easy: connect the second controller, press Start, and you are in.

We played it fully cooperatively. The last levels of the first stage in the free part were already a bit challenging, but together they went quite smoothly. I guess dealing double damage lets you get through the game a lot more easily. And even though it is co-op, after each level you get a little ranking of how each player performed.

To be honest, this is not my favorite genre, as you might know from my other reviews, so I am definitely biased here.

We only tried the free version, which gives you the first levels. That is a generous way to test the game. Personally, I am not going to buy the full game, because it is not my genre. But I cannot say it is a bad game. It is definitely co-op friendly, and there are lots of special effects, weapons, items and enemy types, so I think the later levels have a lot to offer for players who enjoy this kind of game.

It is easy to get into, and the levels do not take long. You can play it in a short break without getting too deep into it.

7 out of 10.

Two players, blue and red, standing in a field soaked in blood while a curved line of bullets cuts through a swarm of spiders
Both players inside shield bubbles, firing beams into a horde of spiders, the level progress bar at the top
A rocket explosion next to the red player, the ground covered in blood and dead aliens, power-ups lying around
End of level screen in co-op: time, kills, accuracy and a kills per trooper chart comparing the blue and red player
